From 2006-2012, The Center for Teacher Learning and Collaboration (TLC), funded through the Office of the President, served as a professional renewal program for mid-career teachers in the Durham Public Schools.

This year-long professional development program included a two-day summer residential retreat and monthly seminars for which teachers receive stipends and Continuing Education Units needed for license renewal throughout the school year.

TLC served more than 140 teachers representing all DPS elementary, middle, and high schools. The Center also conducted research to evaluate the effectiveness of its initiatives and to establish a research base regarding the characteristics of teachers in this critical mid-career period.
