The Center for Teacher Learning and Collaboration (TLC), funded through the Office of the President, is a professional renewal program for mid-career teachers in the Durham Public Schools.
This year-long professional development program includes a two-day summer residential retreat and monthly seminars for which teachers receive stipends and Continuing Education Units needed for license renewal throughout the school year.
Currently in its fifth year, TLC has served approximately 140 teachers representing all DPS elementary, middle, and high schools. The Center also conducts ongoing research to evaluate the effectiveness of its initiatives and to establish a research base regarding the characteristics of teachers in this critical mid-career period.
The Program in Education received renewed funding in 2009 of $150,000 from the Office of the President to continue the work of the Center through 2012.
