Degree Requirements Overview
Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)

36 total graduate units

  • 5 courses in your field
  • 3 MAT-specific education courses
  • 1 course in technology and education
  • 2-semester teaching internship
  • master's portfolio

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program provides secondary school certification in one of the following fields, depending on your undergraduate degree:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Math-Physics
  • Science
  • Social studies

Master of Environmental Management (MEM) & Master of Arts in Teaching

OR

Master of Forestry (MF) & Master of Arts in Teaching

  • 36 graduate course units for the MEM or MF degree. Includes a master's project.

 
AND

  • 30 total graduate course units for the MAT

This is a two-year, concurrent degree program and you must be accepted to BOTH the Nicholas School of the Environment and the Master of Arts in Teaching program.

Students normally earn the MAT first, with a field concentration in general science, and then complete the Master of Environmental Management (MEM) or Master of Forestry (MF) program.
