Jackie is a sixth year teacher at Hillside High School. She has taught English I, II, III, and Creative Writing during her time at the nest. She is the beginning teacher mentor for the second year in a row for over 25 beginning teachers! Her professional interests are creating invigorating lessons that keep kids minds and bodies active and interested in the content. She likes to challenge students to challenge the norms that they have been taught or subjected to in their lives.
Awards & Accolades
Jackie served as the English Professional Learning Community (PLC) Department Chair at Hillside High School from 2012-2015. She has been the Beginning Teacher Mentor at Hillside since 2013. During her third year of teaching, she was elected the Beginning Teacher of the Year. During her fourth year of teaching, she was elected Mentor of the Year. In her fifth year of teaching, she had the highest growth in the EOC testing areas in her school, exceeding the state's growth expectations. Also, during her fifth year, she was one of five teachers nominated for Teacher of the Year in Durham Public Schools. Jackie hopes to continue the trend of success, keeping in mind that none of the success she endures is without students first.
