Bio

Matthew Spencer has taught English at Northern High School since 2008. He currently teaches English 4, Honors English 4, AP Literature and Composition, and Mythology. He has worked with Duke's MAT program since 2013.

Awards & Accolades

In 2015, Matthew was awarded the Northern Star Award for helping students to "exceed expected academic growth" on state exams. He has presented at the national conference for the National Council of Teachers of English. He regularly reviews academic titles for scholarly journals such as Sixteenth Century Journal, Seventeenth Century News, and Essays in Criticism. He is the editor of a critical edition of the literary correspondence between the American poet Robert Frost and the British poet Edward Thomas (Elected Friends: Robert Frost and Edward Thomas to One Another, 2003).
