In 2013, the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program was awarded a National Science Fellowship (NSF) grant to extend and expand the work of a Phase I NSF project awarded in 2006. The Phase II project seeks to continue the recruitment, preparation, and retention of highly-qualified STEM majors and mid-career professionals to become high school science and math teachers. The grant will also prepare teachers to improve student achievement in mathematics and science and support new teachers during their first three years of teaching in high-need school districts.
