Naomi Kraut, Ph.D.
Director, MAT Program
Dr. Naomi Kraut serves as the Director of the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program as well as the Director of Graduate Studies for Program in Education. She teaches MAT 703: Effective Teaching Strategies, MAT 743: The Practice of Culturally Responsive Teaching, and MAT 744: Leading Through Teaching. Her research centers around perceptions of preparedness of preservice teachers, as well as teacher retention and attrition. Prior to joining the Program in Education, Dr. Kraut taught in the MAT program at NC State, where she also supervised secondary English Language Arts student teachers. She received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from NC State in 2013, her Ed.M. from Harvard in 2004, and her B.A. from Carleton College in 1998. Before becoming a high school English teacher, Dr. Kraut taught breakdancing to teenagers, art to toddlers, and ballroom dance to octogenarians.
