About Jesse
Candidate, Duke Master of Arts in Teaching Program
Duke TeachHouse provides me with an enormous opportunity to work closely with fellow educators to create meaningful changes in our world’s most fundamental institutions.
Jesse Westbrook is a first-year Duke TeachHouse fellow and Durham Teaching Fellow in Duke’s Master of Arts (MAT) program. He comes to Durham from Upstate New York after teaching English for three years at a private school in his hometown. Jesse believes in the power of reading, writing, and critical thinking as part of a diverse education to prepare students for the major challenges, inequities, and injustices of our time. Besides reading and writing (of course!), his hobbies include following politics, playing basketball, and hiking trails.
Why did you become a teacher?
I became a teacher because I believe strongly in the power of reading, writing, and critical thinking as part of a diverse education to prepare students for the major challenges, inequities, and injustices of our time.
