Assessing Higher Education: Using Evidence to Guide Policy, Curricula, Pedagogy

EDUC 189FS

This course examines assessment in higher education – its traditions, contexts, and practices. Understanding assessment as more than tests and grades, students will examine Duke's mission, strategic plan, and departmental objectives. They will create plans to evaluate the success of those aspirations, then determine how evidence should be used to guide educational practices. Students, teachers, and many others in our communities and across the country, seek information about the impacts of educational systems, curricula, and pedagogies. This course develops the knowledge and analytic skills to engage in critical inquiry about the state of higher education in the U.S.
