Community is accountability. At TeachHouse it feels great to be in community with other teachers who I know that I can hold accountable for the safety and transformative learning of students in Durham. These teachers also provide me with a standard of accountability--in this space I've found wise counsel, friendship, and a place of safety.
Michele Saunders is a second year TeachHouse fellow and Resident Mentor. She graduated from Hampton University with a B.A. in Liberal Studies in 2018 and from Duke University with a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2020. Upon graduation, she was recognized as an outstanding teacher leader with the 2020 Virginia S. Wilson Excellence in Teaching Award. Michele currently teaches English at Durham School of the Arts. She is from Waterbury, Connecticut.
